Kosovo has demanded that Serbia withdraw all troops from their common border, saying it was ready to protect its territorial integrity. 

The deployment of Serbian troops along the border with Kosovo is the next step by Serbia to threaten the territorial integrity of Kosovo. The tensions between the two countries have been high since last Sunday, when a Kosovar police officer was killed, and an ensuing shootout at a Serbian monastery. 

The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić called on the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija to defend their rights peacefully and stated that the Serbs killed on September 24 were not terrorists, but they were “brought to the brink” by the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina. All of them are “heroes and martyrs” for compatriots in Kosovo and Metohija, the Serbian leader said.

The United States is concerned, warning of an “unprecedented” build-up of advanced Serbian artillery, tanks, and mechanized infantry units near the Kosovo frontier and calling for an “immediate de-escalation”. The US is urging Serbia to withdraw what it says is a large military build-up on the country’s border with Kosovo. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said additional forces had been authorized for the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.
