British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he would resign as leader of the Conservative Party after losing the parliamentary elections. He also noted that he would remain in the post of party leader until a successor was appointed. In his farewell speech, he apologized to the nation for losing the election.
“I leave this job with the honor of being your prime minister. It is the best country in the world. And this is entirely thanks to you, the British people, the true source of all our achievements, our strength and our greatness,” said Mr. Sunak, his words are quoted by The Guardian.
He wished good luck to Labour leader Keira Starmer as prime minister. “In this job (Prime Minister – Kommersant), his successes will be our successes, and I wish him and his family all the best. Whatever our differences in this campaign, he’s a decent, public person that I respect.”
He added that in the near future he will meet with King Charles III to officially resign as prime minister of the country.
