The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the BRICS summit in Kazan next October. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

According to Minister Lavrov, the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the entire agenda on June 8, and today they did it with the participation of their delegations. The Russian Foreign Minister also expressed the opinion that the common task of Russia and India is “to prevent the Ukrainization of the G20.” In his opinion, relations between the two countries fully meet the term “special privileged partnership”.

The summit in Kazan will be the first BRICS summit following the group’s expansion in January to include 10 member countries.

Russia will support the membership of India, Brazil and “countries from the African group” in the UN Security Council with such a decision of the General Assembly. And representatives of the West should not be given such a place, Lavrov is sure.

Modi’s official visit to Moscow takes place on July 8 and 9. The Indian prime minister visited Russia for the first time since 2019, the last time he met with Putin was at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Samarkand in September 2022.

On July 8, an informal meeting of the Russian and India leaders was held in Novo-Ogarevo. On July 9, Putin and Modi held talks at the Grand Kremlin Palace. During his speech, Modi recalled his deep ties with Russia and personally ties with Putin. According to Narendra Modi, over the past 25 years, he has met with the Russian president 17 times. All this speaks to the depth of Russian-Indian relations.

India fully supports the expansion of the BRICS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the plenary session of the bloc’s summit in August 2023 in Johannesburg. From January 1, 2024, five new Member States joined the BRICS, including Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates.
