The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey is negotiating with Russia and Ukraine to resume the grain deal. This issue, according to Mr. Erdogan, has already been discussed with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky. The deal was suspended in July 2023.
“Now we say: let’s resume the grain corridor. We are now negotiating this with both Russia and Ukraine, but we have not yet reached any conclusion on this issue. I hope that we will start working on the grain corridor again,” Mr. Erdogan told reporters (quoted by the Turkish media Haberturk).
According to the Turkish president, the resumption of supplies within the framework of the Black Sea Grain Initiative was discussed with Vladimir Putin at their last meeting. The last time the talks between the heads of state took place on July 3 in Astana on the sidelines of the SCO summit. Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the initiative for the supply of grain to Volodymyr Zelensky at the NATO summit in Washington, which ended the day before, on July 11.
“We maintain contacts with both Russia and Ukraine. In doing so, we strive to be as fair as possible. This approach may worry both Russia and Ukraine from time to time. But we say: both countries are our neighbors,” the Turkish president stressed.

Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN signed a grain deal in July 2022. The agreement provided for the creation of a safe corridor for the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports through the Black Sea, provided that Western restrictions on Russia’s food exports are lifted.
In July 2023, Russia announced its withdrawal from the grain deal due to non-compliance with the terms of the memorandum, including the reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly claimed that Russia is ready to resume the agreement as soon as the UN fulfills the necessary conditions.
