Former U.S. President Donald Trump said that he had chosen Senator from Ohio J.D. Vance as a candidate for vice president of the United States. Mr. Vance criticized Mr. Trump before the 2016 election, but changed his position in 2018 and supported the ex-president in the 2020 election.

“After much deliberation, taking into account the colossal talents of many others, I have decided that the most suitable person for the post of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio,” Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

The former U.S. president (2016-2020), 78, and candidate to the presidential elections of November 2024 added that J.D. Vance will pay special attention to “the people for whom he fought brilliantly.” Among them, Donald Trump named workers and farmers from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Minnesota.

J.D. Vance rose to prominence in 2016 after the publication of his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, Mr. Vance was elected senator of Ohio in 2022. The book deals with his upbringing and the social problems of his hometown. The book was on the New York Times Best Seller list in 2016 and 2017. J.D. Vance calls himself a supporter of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement, which became the basis of Donald Trump’s election campaign in 2016.

James David Bowman, later Vance, was born on August 2, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio. He grew up in a conservative evangelical family. He converted to Catholicism by being baptized and confirmed in August 2019. He says that his political ideas are inspired by Catholic theology
