The US Department of Defense announced today the allocation of two new packages of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $1.5 billion and $200 million.
These funds are part of ongoing efforts of NATO to support Ukraine against Russia and to bolster its security and defense capabilities.
“The US Department of Defense announces a large $1.5 billion support package from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds,” the Pentagon said in a statement on its website.
The second $200 aid package will be sent to Kyiv through the Presidential Drawdown Authority mechanism, which allows funds to be allocated by decree of the President of the United States. As part of military support, the United States will transfer ammunition for air defense systems, shells for the HIMARS MLRS, RIM-7 missiles, as well as mortar shells and ammunition for Javelin. In addition, the assistance packages will include secure communication systems and satellite imagery services.
To date, the United States has committed over $52 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, encompassing various forms of military aid and support programs such as the Presidential Drawdown Authority and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
