The Council of the European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions against 28 citizens of Belarus. This was reported in the communiqué of the press service of the council.
“Today, the Council decided to introduce restrictive measures against another 28 people,” the report says.
The restrictions included the Director General of the BelTA news agency Irina Akulovich, the Chairman of the Youth Parliament at the National Assembly of Belarus Nikita Rachilovsky, the editor-in-chief of the institution of the presidential administration of the country “Publishing House “Belarus Today” Dmitry Zhuk. The sanctions also affected two deputy heads of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption (GUBOPiK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, judges, prosecutors and heads of various correctional institutions.
At the moment, the restrictive measures of the European Union against Belarus apply to 261 individuals and 37 legal entities.
On June 29, the European Union adopted a new package of sanctions against Belarus, a number of similar restrictions were previously imposed on Russia.
The ban on the export of dual-use goods and advanced technologies was extended and export restrictions were imposed on goods that “could contribute to strengthening the industrial capacity of Belarus.” The sanctions affected the export of goods for maritime navigation and technology, as well as luxury goods, to Belarus.

The European Union has restricted the transit through Belarus of dual-use goods and technologies, as well as those that can contribute to the military-technical improvement of the post-Soviet state, the development of the defense and security sector. Goods and technologies for the aviation and space industry and weapons exported from the EU fell under the transit ban.
