The Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmygal asked American senators more air defence systems and investments.
Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal visited Kiev. They discussed a wide range of issues with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal: from Ukraine’s air defense needs to the confiscation of Russian assets in favor of the country.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and his Democratic counterpart Richard Blumenthal arrived in Kiev and held a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, the official said in the telegram channel.
“I voiced our needs for strengthening air defense. The first F-16 aircraft are already in Ukraine, and here the U.S. assistance in training Ukrainian pilots is very valuable. He also informed the senators about our priorities, in particular, the implementation of reforms,” Shmygal said.
The Ukrainian official thanked the United States for its help in restoring Ukrainian energy and raised the issue of frozen Russian assets, which should be “completely confiscated and funds allocated to the urgent needs of Ukraine” and its restoration. The PM also called on American business to invest “in priority sectors” of the Ukrainian economy.
Kiev has repeatedly asked Western countries for additional air defense supplies. In July, Washington announced the transfer of four Patriot complexes from Western countries to Ukraine in addition to what it already has. One system was promised to be provided by the United States, Romania, Germany and Italy (it will also provide one SAMP-T system).
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on this decision, noted that such a number of systems is not enough. At the end of July, the head of Zelensky’s office, Andrey Yermak, announced that “Patriot will be more” without specifying the details.

Russia condemns the supply of Western aid to Ukraine. When it became known about the transfer of Patriot to Kiev in 2022, President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian army would “click” them. In August, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the defeat of three launchers and the destruction of the AN/MPQ-65 Patriot radar station.
F-16 fighters appeared in Ukraine in late July – early August. The Russian Defense Ministry predicted that it would take “approximately 20 days of work” to destroy Western aircraft.
