Peskov was asked whether the Kremlin was ready to voice its position on the detention of the entrepreneur after the publication of charges by the French prosecutor’s office.

“We hope that Mr. Durov has all the necessary opportunities to organize his legal defense. Naturally, taking into account his Russian citizenship, we are ready to provide all the necessary assistance and assistance. But here the situation is also complicated by the fact that he is also a citizen of France,” Peskov said.

Peskov called the charges against Durov very serious. They require an equally serious evidence base, he stressed.

French president Emmanuel Macron said that the detention of Durov is “in no way a political decision.” Telegram stressed that the platform complies with EU laws. “It is absurd to claim that the platform or its owner is responsible for its abuse,” the Telegram administration believes.

Pavel Durov’s net worth is currently estimated at $15.5 billion as of August 2024. This makes him the 150th wealthiest person in the world.
