Russia has closed the possibility of entry into the country for 92 US citizens, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on August 28. The Ministry called this a reaction to the “Russophobic course pursued by the administration of US President John Biden.”

Heads and officials of various levels of law enforcement agencies and special services, heads of key companies of the military-industrial complex and financial institutions supplying weapons to Ukraine fell under the restriction, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.

Entry to Russia is also closed to editorial staff and reporters of leading publications of a “liberal-globalist persuasion” involved in the production and dissemination of “fakes” about Russia and the Russian Armed Forces, the ministry said in a statement. In particular, the list included journalists from The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times, as well as the British newspapers The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian.

In March, Russia denied entry to more than 220 US citizens in response to Washington’s expanding sanctions. Including the restriction included State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, former US Ambassador to the Russian Federation John Sullivan, President of the military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin Shamal Littlefield, as well as the leadership of several arms companies, some deputy secretaries of trade, finance, defense, energy and journalists.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of State released on August 23 new sanctions against 400 individuals and entities both in Russia and outside its borders—including in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East—whose products and services enable Russia to sustain its war effort and evade sanctions.
