President Donald Trump granted clemency to nearly all 1,500 individuals charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. This included pardons for over 1,550 defendants and commutations for sentences of 14 far-right group members convicted of serious crimes like seditious conspiracy. Trump described this as rectifying a “national injustice” and aimed at promoting “healing”.

Earlier that day, outgoing President Joe Biden issued preemptive pardons to several individuals, including Dr. Anthony Fauci and General Mark Milley, to shield them from potential prosecution by the incoming administration.
