The Pentagon is set to deploy 1,500 active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border as part of a broader strategy to enhance border security, following directives from President Donald Trump. This decision, announced on January 22, aligns with Trump’s executive orders aimed at intensifying immigration enforcement and securing the southern border.

Purpose of Deployment: The active-duty troops will assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in various logistical and support roles, including surveillance, transportation, and the construction of barriers. They will join approximately 2,500 National Guard and Reserve forces already stationed at the border.

Operational Support: Acting Defense Secretary Robert Salesses indicated that the troops will provide air support through helicopters and assist in deportation flights for undocumented immigrants.
