The Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold phone talks during which they will discuss, among other things, the results of the meeting of the US and Russian delegations in Riyadh. This was announced by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
When asked by journalists whether we should expect a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping on the results of the talks in Riyadh, the Kremlin spokesman replied: “It is worth it.”
On February 19, Vladimir Putin announced plans to inform BRICS partners, including China, about the results of the talks in Riyadh held on February 18 between the U.S. and Russian top diplomats. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, commenting on the meeting of the delegations of Russia and the United States, stressed that Beijing supports any efforts to establish peace in Ukraine.

China and Russia are two nuclear powers, which became closer in the 2000s. China is the main ally of Russia on the international stage. Both are founding member states of the BRICS, in 2006. Beijing has been supporting Moscow, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and has criticized the expansion towards east of NATO and the U.S. geopolitical influence. This partnership between Russia and China is driven by a shared goal of challenging the U.S.-led global order and countering Western influence.
