The Pakistani military on Friday night fired 300-400 drones at the northern and western regions of India in a coordinated attack on 36 targets, the Hindustan Times reports.

“Our armed forces shot down many drones with the help of anti-aircraft weapons and other means,” said Indian Armed Forces spokeswoman Viomika Singh.

According to her, in response, the Indian military fired UAVs at four air defense positions in Pakistan, and one drone was able to destroy enemy radar.

Hindustan Times sources said that when repelling a Pakistani air attack using UAVs and missiles on the night of May 9, India used S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, Barak-8 and Akash anti-aircraft missiles, anti-drone technologies from the Defense Research and Development Organization.

Earlier, the newspaper reported that the Indian authorities ordered the use of blackout in cities and towns bordering Pakistan.

Over the past two days, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has canceled 228 flights. The authorities have suspended the reception of civilian aircraft at 27 airports in the country until May 10.

Due to the increased demand for tickets on Friday, Indian Railways launched additional trains from the cities of Jammu and Udhampur to New Delhi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday contacted the chief minister of Gujarat, which borders Pakistan, Bhupendra Patel, to discuss the security measures being taken. Patel said that the prime minister clarified the degree of readiness of the state for an emergency and for the protection of the population.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also held meetings to analyze the situation with Chief of Defense Staff of India Anil Chauhan, commanders of the branches of the Indian armed forces.

The conflict between India and Pakistan resumed on the night of May 7, when the Indian army launched Operation Sindoor. The Indian Armed Forces attacked nine targets in the territory. Pakistani authorities reported more than 30 dead. India announced 17 victims of shelling from Pakistan.

Pakistan on May 4 carried out a test launch of the Abdali ballistic missile, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing the Pakistani military.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated following a deadly militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people, mostly Indian tourists, near the resort town of Pahalgam on April 22. India has described the incident as a terrorist attack with cross-border links and blamed Pakistan for backing the militants, specifically pointing to a group called Kashmir Resistance, which India alleges is a front for a Pakistani military-backed militant organization. Eyewitnesses reported that attackers questioned victims about their religion before shooting, indicating a targeted massacre.
