On June 16, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russia’s exclusion from the G8 was a “huge mistake.” Speaking at the G7 summit held in Canada, Trump argued that reintegrating Russia into the group of leading industrialized nations could help ease geopolitical tensions and foster better cooperation on global issues such as security, trade, and energy. He suggested that isolating Russia has not yielded the desired outcomes and that dialogue and engagement might be more effective in addressing conflicts involving Moscow.
Trump’s comments come amid ongoing debates among Western leaders about how to handle Russia following its actions in Ukraine and other geopolitical disputes.
