U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering various options regarding the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, including the possibility of a U.S. military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities. The U.S. is reportedly contemplating targeting Iran’s uranium enrichment site at Fordo, a subterranean facility believed to be crucial to Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump has conveyed increasingly confrontational rhetoric, demanding Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and warning that U.S. patience is wearing thin, though he stated he would refrain from targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “for now”.

U.S. President earlier said on social media that the U.S. knew the location of the country’s leader but was choosing not to take any action, and then said, “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”

Trump cut short his trip to the G7 summit in Canada to return to Washington and focus on the situation in the Middle East, holding a meeting with his national security team in the White House Situation Room to discuss possible actions, including military strikes.

Vice President JD Vance and other top officials have indicated that Trump may decide to take military action to halt Iran’s uranium enrichment. While Trump has grown increasingly warm to using U.S. military assets, he remains open to diplomacy if Iran makes substantial concessions, though his tolerance for diplomatic solutions is diminishing.

The U.S. claims to have “complete and total control of the skies over Iran” and advanced tracking and defensive capabilities superior to Iran’s, which could support potential military operations. Meanwhile, lawmakers in the U.S. Congress are moving to limit Trump’s war powers to prevent unilateral military action against Iran without congressional approval.

Trump is actively weighing the option of joining Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, with a possible U.S. strike on the Fordo facility under consideration, amid heightened tensions and ongoing Israeli-Iranian hostilities. However, no final decision has been made, and internal debate continues among his advisers.

The background to this comes amid intense Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military sites, which have caused significant casualties, mostly among Iranian civilians, and have escalated tensions to a dangerous level. Israel continues its campaign with promises of further strikes, while Iran vows severe retaliation.

On June 17 Israel and Iran have continued to exchange fire, and the death toll in Iran rose to above 450, according to a human-rights group. In Israel, 24 people have died as a result of Iranian strikes.
