The total value of U.S. imports from Russia in 2025 so far amounts to approximately $2.1 billion, based on monthly trade data from January through May 2025. This figure aligns with the monthly import values reported:

  • January 2025: $196 million
  • February 2025: $340 million
  • March 2025: $523 million
  • April 2025: $492 million
  • May 2025: $540 million

Adding these monthly amounts yields about $2.1 billion in imports from Russia during the first five months of 2025.

For context, in the full year 2024, U.S. imports from Russia were around $3.0 to $3.3 billion, showing a significant decline from previous years due to geopolitical tensions and sanctions. The imports mainly consist of fertilizers, precious metals and stones, inorganic chemicals, wood products, and some machinery.

Thus, the $2.1 billion figure for 2025 to date reflects a continuation of reduced trade volumes compared to pre-2024 levels, consistent with ongoing sanctions and trade restrictions related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

U.S. sanctions targeting Russia’s financial, energy, and military sectors restrict U.S. companies’ ability to engage in trade with Russian entities. This affects sectors reliant on Russian raw materials or components, complicates payments due to banking restrictions, and disrupts transportation and logistics, including air and maritime links. While U.S. imports from Russia are relatively low (around $2.1 billion so far in 2025), sanctions have contributed to reduced trade volumes and increased costs for businesses involved in affected supply chains.
