The talks between Putin and Trump in a narrow format have ended. They lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. All journalists were allowed into the hall where the press conference will be held.
It is possible that the talks in an expanded format will continue after the press approach of the presidents, our correspondent reports.
The talks were expected to last several hours, with initial estimates ranging up to seven hours. Both leaders discussed paths toward brokering a ceasefire in the Ukraine-Russia war. Despite the tense backdrop, the meeting marked a historic moment where both leaders even rode together in Trump’s armored limousine to the meeting venue without staff or translators.
After their discussions, both presidents were expected to hold a press conference. Although President Trump indicated a willingness to negotiate, he also warned of “very severe consequences” if a ceasefire was not reached and expressed readiness to “walk away” if talks did not go well.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said he was in a great mood after talks in Alaska. He said this in an interview with Rossiya 1 journalist Pavel Zarubin.
“The mood is always the same – excellent,” Belousov answered the relevant question.
Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that all comments on the progress of the negotiations will be made later.
The Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev called the atmosphere around the talks between Putin and Trump in Alaska positive. Changes are very slow in the negotiations between Russia and the United States in the visa sphere, said the Russian Ambassador to the Russian channel VGTRK correspondent Zarubin.
