The joint press conference between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin began after their restricted talks at the Alaska Summit on August 15. The two leaders held discussions primarily focused on the war in Ukraine, aiming at pursuing peace.
Putin began the news conference with a historical lecture on Alaska, Orthodox churches, and Russian place names. He also touched on the military alliance between the United States and the U.S.S.R. during World War II.
Then the Russian president spoke about the summit :
“The talks were held in a constructive and respectful atmosphere”, said Vladimir Putin.
“Our relations have slipped to their lowest point since the Cold War” – Putin.
“The Russian Federation and the United States are close neighbors, although they are separated by an ocean”, Putin said.
“A significant part of the common history of Russia and the United States is connected with Alaska”, Putin said.
“President Trump and I have established very good direct contacts” – Putin.
Putin thanked Trump for the offer to come to Alaska.
“I expect that today’s agreements will be the starting point for achieving peace in Ukraine” – Putin.

“We were interfered with by the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax. I’ve made it a little bit tougher to deal with, but he understood it,” Trump said.
