European leaders and the Ukrainian President Zelensky in the Oval Office listening to the U.S. President Donald Trump. August 18, 2025.

Ukraine is committed to buy American weapons worth $100 billion, financed by Europe, as part of a deal to receive U.S. security guarantees, writes the Financial Times.

Kyiv and Washington will also conclude a $50 billion deal for the production of drones by Ukrainian companies.

According to the document reviewed by the FT, Ukraine will not agree to any conditions implying territorial concessions to Russia; Kyiv insists on a ceasefire as the first step towards concluding a full peace agreement.

It is also claimed that Ukraine rejects the proposal to freeze the front line.

The Russian Minister of foreign affairs Sergey Lavrov contrasted the constructive U.S. position to that of Europe, some of whose leaders took part in an extraordinary summit at the White House on Monday with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to discuss Ukraine.

Lavrov said “the Europeans had… insisted at every turn only on a cease-fire, and that after that they would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.”

Donald Trump does not want to wait another month for further meetings on Ukraine and advocates for new contacts as soon as possible, the White House reported.

The parties are discussing many possible venues for a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as trilateral talks with the United States.
