The United States and Russia are preparing for another high-level meeting aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

“President Putin and I will meet at an agreed place, in Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can end this ‘inglorious’ war between Russia and Ukraine,” Mr. Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

The U.S. President Donald Trump announced that today after a “very productive” phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, they agreed to hold talks involving senior advisers next week, led on the U.S. side by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Following these advisory meetings, Trump and Putin plan to meet in Budapest, Hungary, though the exact date of the summit has not yet been specified. The meeting aims to see if they can bring the ongoing “inglorious” conflict between Russia and Ukraine to an end.

Trump expressed optimism about the progress made and believes recent success in Middle East peace efforts might aid negotiations.

The U.S. president also suggested that a settlement in Gaza would help achieve a Ukrainian settlement.

The announcement coincides with an upcoming meeting Trump has scheduled with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the conflict and military support through a “Victory Fund”. This latest engagement marks a follow-up to previous talks and shows an active diplomatic push to resolve the war through dialogue involving all parties.

Discussions with NATO and European partners have focused on supplying long-range Tomahawk missiles and sustaining military aid. Trump signals that the U.S. would act decisively if European allies join in this funding effort, linking support for Ukraine with coordinated tariff pressure on China, whose trade policies and rare earth export controls have heightened tensions.

This meeting in Budapest comes after the Kremlin has made no serious proposals after the Alaska Summit held on August 15-16 on the initiative of President Trump, who seems now to have lost patience.
