SpaceX successfully completed the 11th test flight of its giant Starship rocket on October 13, launching from Starbase, Texas. The rocket ascended and remained in flight for over an hour before executing a controlled splashdown landing in the Indian Ocean, while the Super Heavy booster made a soft landing in the Gulf of Mexico.
This flight was significant as it was the final test of this Block 2 version of Starship before transitioning to an upgraded Block 3 design. The mission fully met all objectives, including engine relights, booster descent maneuvers, and payload deployment simulations.

This successful flight validates Starship’s reusable architecture as SpaceX advances toward using it for lunar and Mars missions. NASA praised the progress, viewing it as a key step toward future crewed exploration of the Moon.

In October 2024, SpaceX had achieved a significant milestone in rocket recovery technology by successfully catching its Super Heavy booster back at the launch pad using giant mechanical arms.
Elon Musk’s Starship project through SpaceX aims to revolutionize space travel with a fully reusable, super heavy-lift launch vehicle designed to carry large payloads and crews to Earth’s orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The Starship system consists of two main parts: the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage. Both stages utilize Raptor engines powered by liquid methane and liquid oxygen, and both are designed to return for vertical landings, enabling rapid reuse.
