Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of crown jewels from the Louvre Museum in Paris, which took place on October 19. The arrests occurred on October 25, with one suspect detained at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to leave the country and the other arrested nearby in the Paris area. Both suspects are French nationals with dual citizenship and are believed to have actively participated in the heist. The theft involved eight pieces of the French Crown Jewels valued at around €88 million ($102 million).
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities still searching for additional suspects and the stolen jewels. The arrests were made by the anti-gang brigade, and investigators matched DNA evidence from a helmet left at the scene to one of the suspects. The French Interior Minister praised the investigation efforts, but the whereabouts of the stolen jewels remain unknown.
French police used Palantir Gotham intelligence software as part of their investigation to identify the two suspects involved in the Louvre crown jewels theft. The software helped analyze and cross-reference large volumes of surveillance footage from the museum and its surrounding areas. Combined with traditional investigative techniques—such as DNA evidence from items left at the scene, including a helmet—this advanced data analysis tool enabled the police to narrow down suspects quickly.
The theft at the Louvre sparked widespread outrage among French citizens due to the museum’s apparent security failures. Public criticism focused on the irrelevance of existing security procedures and the absence of a functioning alarm system that should have alerted authorities immediately.
