U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is currently in the United Arab Emirates, specifically Abu Dhabi, for peace talks with Russian officials regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine. These meetings are part of President Donald Trump’s administration’s latest push to secure a ceasefire and move the peace process forward, following recent multi-party discussions in Geneva that included Ukrainian, U.S., and European officials.

The talks are focused on advancing negotiations for an updated peace framework, which involves potential security assurances to Ukraine and consideration of territorial and military concessions, some of which have reportedly met resistance from the Ukrainian side.

While specific members of the Russian delegation have not been disclosed, Driscoll is also expected to engage further with Ukrainian officials during his stay.

The Trump administration is pressing for progress and aiming for a ceasefire by Thanksgiving, though officials suggest this deadline is flexible and negotiations remain ongoing.

Security guarantees akin to NATO’s Article 5 have been discussed as part of the framework, along with requests for significant Ukrainian concessions.
