The output of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Russia in October 2025 amounted to 3.2 million tons, which is 9.0% more than a year earlier, Rosstat agency reported.
Since the beginning of the year, the figure has reached 26.8 million tons, which is 3.7% less than last year’s level.
Large-scale LNG in the Russian Federation is produced by the plants of Sakhalin Energy (co-owners – Gazprom, Japanese Mitsui and Mitsubishi), Yamal LNG (participants -NOVATEK, TotalEnergies, Chinese CNPC and SRF), Cryogas-Vysotsk and Gazprom LNG Portovaya.
In the summer, planned preventive measures are traditionally carried out at production facilities, which may be accompanied by a reduction or shutdown of production.
Most of Russia’s liquefied natural gas is produced in the Arctic zone, mainly at the Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG 2 projects on the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas above the Arctic Circle. These plants are specifically designed for very low ambient temperatures, so sub‑zero winters help reduce the energy needed for refrigeration and make liquefaction more efficient compared with similar facilities in warmer climates.
In September, Russia updated the record for the supply of liquefied natural gas to China. According to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, shipments amounted to 1.299 million tons for the month (a year earlier it was 751 thousand tons). The previous peak was in July 2023 (1 million tons).
