Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has publicly announced that it has begun a “first wave” of large‑scale missile and drone attacks against Israel, describing the strikes as retaliation for Israeli and U.S. attacks on targets inside Iran on February 28, morning.

What Iran is saying

The IRGC says it has launched “extensive missile and drone attacks” toward Israel, calling them a response to the “hostile and criminal” assault on the Islamic Republic.

Iranian statements frame this as the first wave, implying that additional rounds of missiles and drones could follow.

What is happening on the ground

Air‑raid sirens have sounded across multiple parts of Israel, and Israeli air defenses are attempting to intercept incoming projectiles.

Both Israel and Iran have closed their airspace to civilian flights, and Israel has declared a state of emergency while preparing for continued missile and drone attacks.

Regional escalation

In addition to targeting Israel, Iran has also launched strikes toward U.S. military installations and locations in Gulf states such as Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, and possibly others, prompting temporary airspace closures in parts of the region.

These attacks come directly after coordinated U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, marking the most serious escalation since the brief but intense war between Israel and Iran in June 2025.
