U.S. Central Command says B-1B Lancer bombers were used to strike deep inside Iran against Iranian ballistic-missile capabilities as part of Operation Epic Fury. The command stated that the mission aimed to “degrade Iranian ballistic missile capabilities” by destroying missiles and elements of Iran’s missile industry.
The B-1B is a U.S. supersonic heavy bomber capable of around Mach 1.2–1.25 and can carry roughly 71,000–75,000 pounds of ordnance, the largest conventional payload of any U.S. bomber. While the B-1B incorporates some radar cross‑section reduction and electronic warfare systems, it is not classed as a true stealth aircraft like the B-2 Spirit and is generally not described as a stealth bomber.
The U.S. President Trump on Monday said “this was our last best chance to strike” Iran, justifying the operation and suggesting it would last four to five weeks.
Trump outlined four main objectives: destroying Iran’s missile capabilities; annihilating its Navy; preventing the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon; and stopping Iran from arming, funding and directing terrorist groups outside its borders.

Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. was adding forces in the Middle East to support its operation in Iran, as the conflict widened across the region.
Four U.S. troops have been killed so far, with Trump warning more casualties are likely.
Iranian drone strikes targeted the UK’s Royal Air Force base of Akrotiri in Cyprus on March 2, the first attack on European territory, and a major Saudi Aramco (ARMCO) refinery as Tehran retaliated against U.S.-Israeli strikes.
