Political advisers of the “Normandy” format will hold a face-to-face meeting in Paris on January 25. The Russian Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak will represent the Russian Federation, reported today the press agency RIA Novosti and the daily Kommersant.
Earlier, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Andrea Sasse said that Berlin was seeking to hold a meeting in the Normandy format and was working on holding such a meeting, but there was still no date.
This is the first signal of the resumption of negotiations on Donbass after they were curtailed, and Russia and the West began a broader discussion about mutual security guarantees.
Germany will be represented by Foreign Policy Adviser to the German Chancellor Jens Pletner, France by the President’s diplomatic adviser Emmanuel Bonn, Russia and Ukraine by Deputy Head of the Kremlin Administration Dmitry Kozak and Mr Yermak.
The discussions will focus on the Set of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements.
The last time advisers to the leaders of the Normandy Four countries met at the end of last summer. On January 6, representatives of Germany and France visited Moscow, where they held talks with Dmitry Kozak.
The so-called “Normandy format” of negotiations on Ukraine has existed since June 2014. During the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy, the leaders of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France discussed the settlement of the conflict in Donbass for the first time. The previous “Normandy format” summit in Paris was held on December 9, 2019. Recently, the parties at various levels have been discussing the prospects for cooperation in this format.
