Residents of the village of Novofedorovka in the Saki district of Crimea reported explosions in the area of the Russian air base. Footage of the consequences of the strike was distributed by local telegram channels.

Novofedorovka is located about 20 km from Yevpatoria.

Adviser to the head of the Crimea Oleg Kryuchkov confirmed to RIA Novosti press agency the fact of several explosions in the area of Novofedorovka at the military airfield in the Saki district of the Crimea. “I ask everyone to wait for official reports and not to breed versions,” the official said.

Telegram channel Mash reported four explosions and two victims. “Locals report that once a minute they hear something similar to the detonation of shells,” said the statement.

The head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, went to the military airfield. “Right behind is a military airfield. Ambulance crews and sanitary aviation are working on the spot, there are enough of them. It is too early to talk about the victims. Among the civilian population, no one has yet sought help from medical institutions. I kindly ask you to trust only official information“, said the official to journalists.

Local residents reported a large number of ambulances going in the direction of Novofedorovka from Yevpatoria. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia reported that, according to preliminary data, tourists were not injured : “The explosion occurred far from the resort area, there are no victims and injured among the tourists.”

The Russian Defense Ministry claims that on the territory of the Saki airfield in Novofedorovka at about 15:20 there was a “detonation of several aviation ammunition” at the collapsed storage site. Aircraft at the airfield were not damaged.

Around 09:00 PM the Crimean Ministry of Health reported that the number of victims of the explosions in Novofedorovka has increased to nine.

A partial evacuation of the population has been announced in the district.
