Tom Homan’s qualifications for overseeing mass deportations as the newly appointed “border czar” under President-elect Donald Trump are rooted in his extensive background in immigration enforcement and law enforcement.

Homan served as the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from January 2017 to June 2018, during which he was a prominent figure in implementing the Trump administration’s immigration policies, including a significant increase in deportations.

With over 30 years in law enforcement, Homan began his career as a U.S. Border Patrol agent and progressed through various roles within ICE, ultimately becoming the executive associate director for enforcement and removal operations under President Obama before transitioning to a leadership role in the Trump administration.

Tom Homan was instrumental in shaping and executing controversial policies such as family separation during the “zero tolerance” approach to immigration enforcement, which aimed to deter illegal crossings by prosecuting all unauthorized border crossers.
