YouTube has announced a price increase for its TV streaming service, YouTube TV, raising the monthly subscription fee from $72.99 to $82.99. This change is effective immediately for new subscribers and will apply to existing users starting January 13, 2025.

This marks the first price hike since March 2023, when the cost was raised from $64.99 to $72.99.

The company attributes this increase to “the escalating costs of content” and the need to invest in service quality enhancements. YouTube TV continues to offer features such as unlimited DVR storage, the ability to create up to six accounts, and three simultaneous streams. 

Despite these features, many subscribers are expressing dissatisfaction with the rising costs, which have significantly increased since the service’s launch in 2017 when it started at just $35 per month.

This latest adjustment aligns YouTube TV’s pricing with competitors like Hulu + Live TV, which also charges around $82.99 per month. 

As streaming services face increased operational costs and content acquisition fees, similar price hikes have been observed across the industry, prompting some users to reconsider their subscriptions;
