President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, on February 25.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to sit down at the negotiating table to end Russian hostilities in Ukraine.
“I want to appeal once again to the President of the Russian Federation. Fighting is raging throughout Ukraine. Let’s sit down at the negotiating table. To stop the deaths”, said the President Zelensky during a briefing at the President’s Office on the operational situation in Ukraine.
Russian troops are approaching Kiev.
Shooting was heard near the government quarter in Kiev, reported by the Associated Press. According to him, the shooting began after a series of explosions in the capital of Ukraine early in the morning. Fights to conquer Kiev should be very tough, as Ukrainian soldiers defending the government quarter might not surrender to Russians.
Despite the rapid advance in the first hours of the invasion, Russian troops are already suffering losses, including prisoners.
If thousands of civilians are fleeing to the Western regions of Ukraine, some don’t want to leave their homes and think that Russian military will not damage civilian areas.
Local sources report that Russian troops advanced deep into the territory of Ukraine for 25-30 kilometers, and in the south – for 70-90 kilometers in one day. In addition, a Russian helicopter assault was landed – and was able to gain a foothold – on the northern outskirts of Kiev. At least one regional center, Sumy, has been captured by Russians, and fighting is underway in another regional center, Kherson. The Russian army has carried out missile and air strikes on military bases, naval bases and airports in Ukraine.
