The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.5%, while the S&P 500 was roughly flat after opening the session higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.9%.

SpaceX and Advanced Micro Devices were both in negative territory. Elon Musk’s rocket company beat Wall Street expectations last night but rattled investors by disclosing plans for massive AI spending. Its shares are down around 10%.

From a sector perspective, five of the S&P’s 11 segments were up, led by materials, while communication services were down the biggest of the session so far.

U.S. Treasury yields were little changed across the curve. The yield on 2-year US Treasuries (US2Y) rose 2 basis points to 4.21%, the yield on 10-year US Treasuries (US10Y) added 2 basis points to 4.63%, and the yield on 30-year US Treasuries (US30Y) rose 1 basis point to 5.18%.

Brent crude futures were down 60 cents, or 0.76%, at $78.76 a barrel by 1:30 p.m. ET (1730 GMT). U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures fell $1.19, or 1.57%, to $74.58.

Both gold and silver were sharply higher. Gold traded at a bid of 4,258.80 and an ask of 4,260.80, up 182.10 points, or 4.47%, with an intraday range between 4,064.80 and 4,268.60.

Silver also rallied strongly, with a bid of 62.09 and an ask of 62.34, gaining 2.69 points, or 4.53%, and ranging from 59.28 to 62.89. These prices show a broadly strong precious-metals session, with gold near its highs and silver posting an equally forceful move.
