The first batches of Sputnik V, the Russian vaccine against Covid-19, were produced in Uzbekistan at the facilities of Jurabek Laboratories Ltd, reported the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). The vaccine will be used to implement a vaccination program for the Uzbek population. Sputnik V was certified for use in Uzbekistan in February 2021.
Founded in 1996, Jurabek Laboratories Ltd is a large manufacturer of pharmaceutical products in Uzbekistan.
“The local production of the drug, which has confirmed its high efficiency and safety during its use in various regions of the world, will significantly accelerate the vaccination of the population of Uzbekistan and form a strong and stable immunity, including against new emerging strains of coronavirus,” said Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the RDIF.
“We are confident that the localization of production will increase the supply of the Sputnik V vaccine, which is in demand today,” said Munira Karieva, General Director of Jurabek Laboratories Ltd.
The Sputnik V vaccine has been so far registered in 69 countries.
