The meeting between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the U.S. President Donald Trump may occur in the end of next week. This is reported by SkyNews and NBC, citing a senior White House official. The TASS press agency source also confirms the possibility of a meeting next week.
It is not yet known whether President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the meeting. The meeting place, according to the official, is still being discussed. Among the options are the UAE, Hungary, Switzerland and Rome, NBC reports. The logistics of negotiations may change in the near future.
Prior to that, Bloomberg reported that the United States and Russia were working on a “territory agreement.” Washington is seeking to enlist the support of Kyiv and its European allies in this agreement. The Russian side demands that Ukraine cede the entire eastern Donbass, as well as Crimea, to Russia.
On August 7, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Moscow and Washington had agreed on an agreement on a meeting of the presidents of the two countries in the coming days. Fox News sources claim that the meeting may take place on August 11.
Russia refused Italy to host the meeting in Rome for the U.S. and Russian presidents. A source of Corriere della Sera newspaper noted that Moscow considers the Rome authorities “too much associated with Kyiv.”
On August 6, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow. He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, their meeting lasted about three hours. As presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said after the talks, the meeting had two topics – the conflict in Ukraine and “prospects for the possible development of strategic cooperation between the United States and Russia.”
