China has decided to extend its visa-free regime with Russia until the end of 2027, in a move aimed at facilitating travel and strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun announced on Wednesday.
Guo stated that China would prolong the arrangement until December 31, 2027, further easing mobility between the neighboring powers amid deepening bilateral cooperation.
Under the policy, Russian citizens holding ordinary passports will be permitted to enter China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. The exemption applies to a broad range of purposes, including business travel, tourism, family visits, cultural and educational exchange programs, private visits, and transit travel.
The announcement comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting China for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their meeting, Putin welcomed the continuation of the reciprocal visa-free framework, emphasizing its role in expanding humanitarian and economic ties between the two nations.
“An additional incentive for strengthening humanitarian contacts was the introduction of a reciprocal visa-free regime for the citizens of our countries, launched on your initiative. We will certainly continue this practice,” Putin declared during talks with Xi.

The extension reflects the growing strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing, as both countries continue to intensify cooperation in trade, tourism, education, and broader geopolitical coordination.
From September 15, 2025, Russian tourists can visit China without visas for up to 30 days. Initially, it was planned that the visa-free regime would be valid until September 14, 2026.
