A U.S. delegation plans to make another trip to Moscow, Russia, for talks on the settlement of the war in Ukraine. This is reported by The New York Times (NYT), citing a source familiar with the negotiations.

According to the publication, Washington is waiting for negotiations on Ukraine to make more progress before sending its negotiators to Kyiv. In April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that he expected an imminent visit by American negotiators Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner to Ukraine, the newspaper recalls.

In recent weeks, as journalists note, although Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have been distracted by the war in Middle East, negotiations on Ukraine have been “quietly moving behind the scenes.” The NYT also noted that during the negotiations, representatives of Kyiv proposed to name the part of Donbass where hostilities continue to be called “Donnyland” in honor of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Since January 2026, Russia, Ukraine and the United States have held three rounds of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi and Geneva. The last meeting took place on February 17-18. The next round was supposed to be held in March in the UAE, but due to the war in the Middle East, it did not take place.

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said that for the duration of hostilities in Iran, the United States agreed to hold negotiations only on the territory of the United States, but Russia, according to him, did not agree to this option. Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin hopes to continue negotiations soon. He also noted that the disagreements between Russia and Ukraine lie in “a few kilometers.”
