Tehran and Muscat may soon agree on a system for managing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, but the lifting of the blockade from it has nothing to do with these negotiations, but with the actions of the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday.

“Negotiations with Oman regarding the legal mechanism and management of the Strait of Hormuz, with the determination of the route of ships through it, are underway, and we are very close to an agreement,” Tasnim quoted the minister as saying.

“But the opening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on other conditions, including compensation for violations of the Islamabad Memorandum by the United States,” Iranian Foreign Minister added.

The Iranian minister noted that at the moment we are talking about a temporary route through the Strait of Hormuz, the approval of which is fraught with a number of difficulties. At the same time, the military of Iran and Oman are discussing this issue, following the consultations, a new path should be determined.

Meanwhile, data from the analytical company Kpler show that traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely limited. On Friday, eight ships passed it. Before the start of the conflict, 130-140 ships passed the strait in the region every day.

The day before, the IRNA news agency, citing a representative of the Iranian National Security Commission of the Iranian parliament, reported that Iran and Oman were able to agree on the basis of an agreement on ensuring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

If Tehran and Muscat can agree, Iran and the United States could return to the negotiating table in compliance with the terms of the June memorandum of understanding.
