U.S. stocks climbed on Monday, October 26, as Anthropic’s public IPO filing revived enthusiasm for artificial intelligence ahead of technology earnings and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision. The S&P 500 gained approximately 0.7%, the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.8% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2%, according to the supplied closing figures.
Anthropic, the company behind Claude, confirmed that it filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission and intends to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker “ANT.” The company has not determined the offering’s price range or number of shares.
Anthropic IPO Could Become a Landmark Listing
The filing sets the stage for a potential market debut during the week of November 16, ahead of Thanksgiving. That timetable remains subject to change, and the registration statement has not yet become effective.
Reports suggest the offering could raise more than $100 billion and value Anthropic at as much as $2 trillion. Those figures are prospective estimates, not terms announced in the initial filing. Investors will need updated documents before assessing the valuation against the company’s finances.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are underwriting the proposed offering. For public-market investors, the listing would provide direct access to a major AI-model developer rather than exposure primarily through chipmakers, cloud providers and infrastructure suppliers.
S-1 Reveals Growth—and Substantial Losses
Anthropic’s filing offered a closer look at the economics behind its expansion. The company disclosed a $80.7 billion net loss for the six months through June, according to market reporting. However, roughly $72 billion reflected non-cash accounting adjustments associated with convertible notes, making the headline loss different from cash consumed in operations.
That distinction is central to evaluating the business. Investors must separate accounting effects from recurring expenses while examining how revenue growth compares with spending on computing capacity, research and infrastructure.

The filing also cited rising revenue per employee, from $1.4 million in September 2025 to more than $6.6 million in September 2026. Although striking, that measure does not establish profitability or eliminate the need for substantial investment.
AI Risk Disclosures Temper Enthusiasm
Anthropic’s prospectus devoted extensive attention to risks, including the possibility that advanced AI systems could escape effective control. The company warned that such developments could become a major global-security threat. These disclosures describe potential outcomes, not predictions that they will occur.
The filing therefore presents investors with two connected propositions: rapid commercial growth and unusually complex operational, legal and safety risks. Monday’s technology rally suggests renewed appetite for AI exposure, but offering terms and future results will determine whether that enthusiasm is justified.
Brent and WTI Oil Prices Retreat
Lower oil prices provided additional relief after last week’s sharp advance. Brent crude fell 91 cents to settle at $115.81 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate declined $1.51 to $101.76. Earlier prices were lower still, illustrating why morning quotations should not be confused with settlement levels.

Geopolitical uncertainty nevertheless remained embedded in prices. Gallo Partners’ Michael Alfaro estimated that it had added roughly $20 a barrel, underscoring the market’s sensitivity to developments in the Middle East.
Gold and Silver Recover Before the Fed
In the supplied settlement figures, October Comex gold rose 0.8% to $4,022.30 per troy ounce, while October silver gained approximately 0.7% to $54.108. These are futures prices, not spot quotations.

The rebound followed sharp precious-metals losses. Lower crude prices eased immediate inflation concerns, while investors awaited Wednesday’s Federal Reserve decision and subsequent inflation data.
The week’s central test is valuation: whether strong technology growth, Anthropic’s eventual offering terms and the Fed’s policy outlook can sustain renewed demand for risk assets.
